Well the title may not be quite suggestive of what lies in store in this post. My 14 year old cousin had come to our place for a week recently and he seemed really fascinated by my laptop and the only thing he was interested in was Notepad. He typed which he claimed was a story and I thought you would be interested in a quick read.
Well, if you haven’t got enough time, just skip to the section Observations after the italicised part:
THERE IS A STORY OF THREE FRIENDS BEHID YOU.ENJOY UPS & DOWNS OF THIER LIFE .I (THE WRIRTER-KARTIK VASISHT) HOPE THAT YOU WOULD ENJOY THIS STORY
There were three friends they like each very much
They studied in same school
That is little angles school
one WAS sahilNEXT parag LAST gourav
they were to go to school next but their holiday homework was very much pending so they decided to do thier work that day itself
the most dangrous mam they like was of maths and thier maths work was totaly pending even they don't know about that work
so when thier school bus reachwd near thier house a student of class 9 named rachit came out.they got a marvelous oppotunity to compelete thier work.they asked him to give his maths booklet for some time. They promised him that will return his work booklet till evening.they were thanking god for that.when they in the house of sahil to compelete thier work. They were running in joy suddenly rachit's booklet down in a dirty pond. They all got scared &thought that when rachit would get this what would be his reaction.then sahil quickly picked it up & tried to met that dry as soon as possible.the good thing was that booklet's inside pages were well fine & safe.only cover and the first page was wet.then parag said that they should their homework quikly.he said that file would automaticaly be dry.we should not be more late in doing our homework. they quickly started thier work .it was so long that were not able to compelete that till evening.but the booklet was well fine .when rachit came they gave his file & then rachit went to his home .they were then even not nervous about the homework as i have told about them that they were cool minded.they decided to enjoy that night most cheerfull that they ever did.on the next day were well ready to go school. They plannned a mind bloowing idea to make them safe from thier maths teacher. They took the home work of any other student &showed to mam.they were safe &happy.A very bad news for them was that after four days they would have thier exams.sahil thought that they should work hard now for thier exams.from that day studied hard for thier success. After three days they were totaly prepared for thier exams.sahil has even got highest marks in the class.they were all happy by thier hard working &marks.thier maths teacher was totally suprised about thier marks &gave them a toffee each.they decided to work hard regularly as before. They now understod the value of hard working.Thier parents were also felling proud on them. They happily passed all the exams &scored well in all subjects. They were happy &exited .
Observations:
He had obviously thought that this was an innovative piece of literature and thought it would interest the readers, but something that caught my attention was his choice of topic. Given that he had entire freedom to write anything ( for this piece of work wouldn’t be graded), he could write about all his fascinations- cricket, football, aliens, bollywood, anything, the only thing he could think of was exams. Now, I am quite sure 90% kids could have done the same in the given scenario.
This is an evidence that clearly shouts:” Our education system is killing the childhood of millions of school going children”. At an age when they should be lost in wonderlands, they are bound to think about exams, marks and ranks. This is where we kill the innovative minds of children. The lack of innovation and creativity in Indian minds that we complain about is born out of this system.
Another point to note is the vague definition of good and bad, that reads anyone who gets marks is good and everything else is bad. Happiness has been directly linked with marks.
This puts a big question mark on the education system of the country. I would have loved an education system that kills such competition and provides for the holistic development of a child. How this can be achieved- is something we need to answer……
Well, like all other posts in the blog, I am leaving this post unconcluded… for I want you to figure out a conclusion yourself…….
Deepak liked your post, but I would say our education system is a miniature reflection of the bad world we live in.
ReplyDeleteYou say "Good and bad has been directly to marks". Dont you think it is because "Success and happiness is directly related to money". Like for instance, take a country- how do we define GDP? Whether it is developed or not? What do people care for? Economy!!
No place for arts and all. It's like a person is judged to be doing something good in life, if has a nice package or earning from business. That's how the conditions have been modeled, so what else will a child do other than prepare for making that money in the future.
Really awful system all around us.
Yeah! that is the point I wanted to make.... but I believe the seeds lay in the education system itself... Just see, how a 3 year old is made to learn A, B, C rather than giving him clay to model his world of creativity or give him ears to listen to his imaginations..... We are the ones to tell him, that his "A B C" is more important than any of the creative things going through his minds... We teach him to be 'competitive' and tell him that the sole aim of his life is not eduction or learning or creativity but just 'standing first in his class...
